The Women’s Health Victoria service 1800 My Options has reached a major milestone, recording 50,000 calls since it began in 2018.
The free and confidential helpline supports people across Victoria by providing information and referrals for abortion care, contraception, sexually transmitted infections, and other sexual and reproductive health services.
The service connects callers with trusted healthcare providers and aims to help people make informed decisions about their health in a respectful and supportive environment.
Call numbers have steadily increased over time, with the service now receiving about 730 calls each month. Most callers seek information about accessing abortion services and other reproductive health care options.
Staff at the service say they focus on providing compassionate and non-judgemental support for every caller, helping them understand and navigate the healthcare system.
Sexual and Reproductive Health Navigator Julie, who has supported more than 8,000 calls, said her goal is for callers to feel heard and confident when making health decisions.
Women’s Health Victoria CEO Sally Hasler said the milestone reflects the ongoing need for accessible information, with abortion-related queries making up around 90% of calls.
She noted that many people contact the service to better understand how to access abortion care, highlighting the complexity of navigating the health system.
The service is funded through the Victorian Government as part of its investment in women’s health programs aimed at improving access to care and support across the state.
