Ahpra Review Identifies Improvements for Notifications Process
06 Aug 2026
The review focused on notifications involving racism and discrimination, including islamophobia and antisemitism. It concluded that Ahpra and the National Boards generally applied appropriate and proportionate thresholds when assessing these matters.
The report also identified several areas for improvement, including greater consistency in managing low-risk cases, faster communication with practitioners and stronger processes for dealing with vexatious complaints.
To address these issues, Ahpra has outlined six actions aimed at strengthening the notifications process and improving its response to matters involving racism and discrimination.
The Australian Medical Association (AMA) said it will continue to advocate for a fair and proportionate notifications system, with stronger safeguards to reduce unnecessary impacts on the wellbeing of health practitioners.
