Free medical van brings healthcare to people experiencing homelessness in Fairfield
19 Aug 2026
The service operates every Wednesday from 12pm to 2pm near Fairfield train station, alongside the foundation’s food support program. It is funded by South Western Sydney PHN through the Australian Government’s Homelessness Access Program.
The mobile team includes a GP, nurse and social worker who provide a range of free services, including health checks, screening, treatment, preventative care and referrals to health and community services.
The service aims to address common barriers to healthcare faced by people experiencing homelessness, including transport difficulties, financial hardship and complex social needs.
Fairfield has the second-highest number of people experiencing homelessness in South Western Sydney, making local and accessible healthcare particularly important.
The service also builds on the Rev. Bill Crews Foundation’s existing relationship with the local community through its food support program and other services for people experiencing hardship.
The medical van pilot will operate until 31 July 2027, after which it will be evaluated to help guide future service delivery.
