Royal Hobart Hospital Emergency Department Access to Change
01 Sep 2026
From 8 am on Tuesday 15 September 2026, the Royal Hobart Hospital Emergency Department will be accessed through the new entrance on Argyle Street, near the corner of Liverpool Street.
Changes to Argyle Street between Collins and Liverpool Streets will provide a dedicated area for ambulances and a public drop-off zone outside the new Emergency Department entrance.
Construction will then move to the redevelopment of the existing Emergency Department and the Liverpool Street forecourt.
Signage, construction zones and traffic management measures will be in place to help patients and visitors move safely around the hospital during the works.
The Royal Hobart Hospital will remain open throughout the construction period. Vehicle access to Hobart Private Hospital will not be affected.
The new Argyle Street Emergency Department entrance is expected to remain in use until 2028, while work on the Liverpool Street area is completed.
Patients and visitors are encouraged to check the latest information about Emergency Department access before visiting the hospital.
