Tasmanians Invited to Shape New Cancer Strategy

Around 4,000 Tasmanians are diagnosed with cancer each year, making cancer a major health issue for communities across the state.
The Tasmanian Cancer Strategy sets a long-term direction for reducing the impact of cancer and improving health outcomes, equity and the experience of people affected by cancer.
The strategy has been developed using evidence, data and feedback from people with lived experience of cancer, healthcare professionals, service providers, researchers, community organisations and government partners.
Department of Health Statewide Clinical Lead, Cancer Services, Dr Patti Bastick said the strategy aims to provide a clear direction for improving cancer care across Tasmania.
Once finalised, the strategy will focus on preventing more cancers, finding cancers earlier and providing more coordinated, equitable and high-quality care.
The Tasmanian Cancer Strategy Exposure Draft is now open for public consultation.
Over the next six weeks, Tasmanians are encouraged to provide feedback on whether the strategy focuses on the right priorities and how these priorities could be put into action.
Dr Bastick said practical feedback from the community will help ensure the strategy reflects the needs of Tasmanians.
Members of the public can review the exposure draft and provide their feedback as part of the consultation process.
