Victoria Expands ADHD Care Through GP Training Program

Victoria Expands ADHD Care Through GP Training Program

15 Jun 2026

From September 2026, 150 GPs will begin specialised training to safely diagnose and manage ADHD in adults and children aged six years and older. The program aims to make ADHD care more accessible and reduce wait times for patients seeking support.

The training program is being developed and delivered by the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP). GPs interested in taking part can submit an Expression of Interest through the RACGP website.

As part of the reforms, the Victorian Virtual Emergency Department (VVED) will also offer short-term access to ADHD prescriptions for people with an existing diagnosis who urgently need medication and cannot reach their usual treating clinician. The service is intended as a temporary safety net rather than a replacement for ongoing care.

The VVED prescription service for adults will begin in September 2026 and is already available for children under 18 years of age.

Expressions of Interest for the GP training program open on 15 June 2026.
